Every successful protection project starts with one thing: precision.
Before we even touch the machine polisher, our team performs a thorough visual inspection and creates test panels on various parts of the vessel. This allows us to accurately gauge the level of correction needed, how much time it will take, and where that time should be spent.
It also helps us deliver transparent and accurate estimates. While we do our best to hold to those initial estimates, it’s important to understand that sometimes deeper issues are uncovered as the job progresses.
There are two very different modes of correction in the marine world:
At DNA Surface Concepts, we specialize in both.
We use the Ceramic DNA Edge Professional line, a high-performance system developed for both new and weathered surfaces. While Sean Kelly didn’t formulate the chemistry himself, he engineered a complete system and process that brings out the highest potential of any boat’s surface—whether it’s just launched or 10 years old.
Correction Process:
Not all corrections are created equal—and neither are all boats. That’s why we take extra precautions every step of the way:
Yes, boats can look glossy outdoors—but boats corrected, refined, and prepped under true light control achieve an entirely different level of finish.
Once correction is complete and our final inspection + wipe-down are done, we transition into surface preparation—where the surface is chemically and mechanically ready for protection.
Once the surfaces have been corrected, enhanced, and restored, we turn our full attention to a process that’s often overlooked—but never by us.
This is where everything depends on the quality of the clean.
We begin with our proprietary Strip Wash, a meticulous chemical cleansing process that sets the stage for high-performance protection. This is far beyond a basic soap-down. The strip wash is designed to remove every trace of residue, both organic and synthetic, and create the ideal bonding environment for ceramic coatings or Yacht Armor film.
If we miss this step or don’t perform it to our standards, the longevity of your coating can be cut in half—or worse, fail entirely within a few months. That’s why cleanliness is paramount, and it’s directly proportional to the hours spent during final prep.
The average boat requires 10 to 15 hours, sometimes more, just for this cleaning stage. It involves:
Whether we’re dealing with a seasoned sportfisherman or a fresh-off-the-lot center console, we clean:
This is a full 360° inspection and decontamination, reaching the lowest and most overlooked areas.
If we encounter defects—like gelcoat imperfections, vinyl issues, or compromised systems—we also document and report them, offering to coordinate additional services so you don’t have to lift a finger.
To reach a state of true bonding readiness:
By the time we’re done, this will be the cleanest your boat has ever been.
All of this is documented and cataloged into our CompanyCam file, which keeps a permanent record of what was done, where, and how.
With the correction dialed in and the surface now prepped to perfection, we move forward into our final stage: implementing protection with Ceramic Coatings or Yacht Armor Film.
